Four CAA Players Honored As Freshmen All-Americans By Collegiate Baseball

Four of the top rookies in CAA baseball this season were honored by Collegiate Baseball newspaper as Freshmen All-Americans on Wednesday.

William & Mary pitcher Carter Lovasz, UNCW pitcher RJ Sales, Charleston outfielder Tyler Sorrentino and Elon pitcher Shea Sprague received national recognition after picking up all-conference accolades.

Lovasz went 2-1 with a team-high five saves and a 2.94 ERA for William & Mary. The right-hander struck out 41 over 52.0 innings and held opponents to a .179 batting average. He was selected to the All-CAA second team and CAA All-Rookie team.

Sales posted a 6-1 record with a 3.52 ERA for UNCW. The right-hander made a team-high 15 starts and recorded 59 strikeouts over 76.2 innings. He was chosen to the All-CAA first team and was a member of the CAA All-Rookie squad.

Sorrentino batted .284 from the leadoff spot for Charleston and contributed eight doubles, four triples, one homer, a team-best 48 runs scored and 31 RBI’s. The outfielder also stole 15 bases and drew 32 walks for a .385 on base percentage. He was selected as the CAA Co-Rookie of the Year and made the All-CAA second team.

Sprague registered a 6-3 record and ranked second in the CAA with a 1.89 ERA. The Elon left-hander fanned 41 and walked only 13 in 62.0 innings and held opponents to a .215 batting average. He was honored as the CAA Co-Rookie of the Year and was voted to the All-CAA first team.
