5 Storylines To Follow At The 2022 Grappler Fall Classic

The Grappler Fall Classic returns to Michigan after spending the past two years in South Carolina. This year’s event will take place on October 1-2 in Kalamazoo, Michigan, with a solid and deep field.

Here are five storylines to follow as you prepare to watch the event LIVE on FloWrestlng.

The Loaded 125-pound Field

This is the weight class to watch at this year’s Grappler Fall Classic. Caden Horwath of Davison, Michigan, is seeded first and ranked #3 in the country at 120 pounds. He’ll face stiff competition from returning GFC champion Jake Crapps of Georgia and Drew Heethius of Michigan. Horwath plans to attend Michigan while Heethius committed to Princeton and Crapps is going to Navy. Crapps (#8 nationally at 120), was named Outstanding Wrestler after a spectacular run through last year’s tournament.

Cecilia Williams Means Business

Williams (Lansing, Michigan) is ranked #4 in the country at 112 pounds but she is entered in FOUR different brackets at GFC. The freshman phenom will wrestle in the girls 15U and high school divisions at 120 pounds and the varsity and elite boys divisions at 119 pounds. She won the 16U division at Fargo in 2021 and placed fourth in both divisions this year.

Seth Mendoza Attempts A Three-peat

Mendoza, a sophomore at Mount Carmel High School in Illinois, is no stranger to GFC. He is currently ranked third in the country at 106 pounds and will compete at 112 pounds this weekend in an attempt to win his third title.

An-other Reason To Watch GFC

Too bad the 155-pound high school girls' bracket only has two entrants. Genevieve An is entered and has had quite a 2022 season. She reached the finals of 16U Nationals and placed fifth in the Junior division after placing third at the U17 World Team Trials. The Georgia state high school champion continues to make a name for herself after winning Outstanding Wrestler honors at this event in 2021.

The Return Of Yannis Charles

Yannis Charles of South Carolina is seeded fourth at 152 pounds but he was the talk of the tournament in 2021. His awe-inspiring come-from-behind victory during last year’s GFC finals is the stuff of legend. Do yourself a favor and watch the entire match below. You won’t be disappointed.
