Week 6: High School FAB 50 Rankings

By Kevin Shelton

The first shakeup at the top of FloSoftball's 2019 FAB 50 poll occurs this week.  After eight weeks at No. 1, and 24 consecutive wins to start the campaign, Norco (CA) suffered its first loss, falling 4-3 in extra innings to Santiago (CA).

Neshoba Central (MS), ascends to the top spot. They continue to roll, knocking down opponents along the way. The Rockets outscore teams this season 185 to 6, collecting their last seven wins via shutout. Ace Aspen Wesley (Mississippi State) is 16-0 holding a 0.07 ERA with 242 strikeouts in 96 innings pitched. The 2018 MSHAA 5A State Champs have won 67 straight games.

Keystone (OH) stays at No. 2 in the poll. The Wildcats continue to dominate allowing only two runs this spring. Coach Piazza's crew has posted eight shutouts in nine games and at the plate are averaging just under 10 runs per game. Senior Sydney Campbell has fanned 91 hitters in 52 innings, issued no walks and has a 0.00 ERA.

No. 3 Lakewood Ranch jumped up from No. 5 with a big win over No. 24 Oakleaf (FL) on Saturday, improving its record to 18-0.  Oakleaf is set for a showdown with 17-2 Bartow (FL) this Wednesday.

With just one week left in the Texas Public School High School season, six of the eight Lone Star State entries clinched the outright or share of their district titles. By Friday night 99% of the five separate 128 team brackets will be announced and the six-week long trek to the State Tournament will begin.

Cedar Ridge (TX) continues their march upping their record to 26-0. Forney, last year's 5A State Champ challenged itself early but has not found a worthy opponent in league play outscoring its district opponents 175 - 3 in 11 games.  Barbers Hill (TX) and Dripping Springs (TX) both boast 30-2 marks. Keller (TX) secured at least a share of their league title with two to play in certainly one of the toughest 6A districts in Texas. A well coached Katy (TX) team will likely win their district and is expected to make a serious run.

Five more teams fell from the rankings this week. The shift made room for teams with strong records. Our highest debut this week is at No. 33. Pontiac (IL) begun the season 11-0.  Checking in at No. 34 is Coral Springs Charter (FL).  This 16-1 squad won 14 in a row and recently shutout then No. 13 Estero (FL). More newcomers include Bradshaw Mountain (AZ) at 28-1, South County (VA) and St. John Vianney (NJ) both 8-0.
