ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 25-ranked University of Michigan softball team swept a doubleheader against Nebraska on Saturday (March 23), outscoring the Cornhuskers, 15-2, to notch a series win at the Wilpon Complex, home of Alumni Field.

The Wolverines earned a six-inning 8-0 victory in game one before they notched a 7-2 win in game two.

The Michigan coaching trio of Carol HutchinsBonnie Tholl and Jennifer Brundage earned their 1,000th win in their 21 seasons together in the top half of the doubleheader against Nebraska and are now 1,001-251-2 as a staff.

Sophomore Meghan Beaubien struck out 10 batters, marking back-to-back games with double-digit strikeouts, and allowed just two batters to reach base in game one. Freshman Alex Storako captured the win in game two, going 4.1 innings before Beaubien came on in relief to earn her second save of the season.

Senior Alex Sobczak launched a game-ending three-run home in game one, while junior Madison Uden drove in two runs in game one against the Cornhuskers. In game two, senior Mackenzie Nemitz plated three runs on one hit.

Michigan and Nebraska played four scoreless innings before Michigan lit up the scoreboard in the bottom of the fifth, when they tallied two hits, including a two-run double from Uden, to take the advantage with two innings to play.

The Wolverines tacked on another four runs in the bottom of the sixth including a three-run homer from Sobczak to lock up the run-rule win over the Cornhuskers in game one.

Michigan loaded the bases in three straight batters and preceded to score three runs to come out to an early 3-0 advantage. Nemitz extended the U-M lead to 5-0 in the bottom of the second when she knocked a single into left field, driving in two runs.

Nebraska cut the lead to three on a two-run home run in the top of the fourth inning before shutting down the Michigan offense for two straight innings. The Wolverines extended their lead back to five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning on a sacrifice fly and a single from Blair.

The Wolverines tallied a double play to close out the sixth inning before the Cornhuskers threatened a two-out rally in the seventh inning when Alyvia Simmons tallied her third hit of the day with a single up the middle but a thrilling catch at first ended the contest.

Michigan and Nebraska will close out their three-game series on Sunday (March 24) with first pitch slated for 1 p.m. at the Wilpon Complex.
