Rising Star: Mayce Allen 2020 Catcher/Outfielder

Rising Star: Mayce Allen 2020 C/OF

When Mayce Allen was eight her family moved into a new house in Flowermound, Texas. They received a flyer in the mail from a local softball team called the Flowermound All-Stars.

Allen picked up the flyer and told her parents, “I want to play this.” Pointing to the softball players on the flyer, her parents were surprised by her interest and enthusiasm for softball.

Her parents took her to the tryouts. She made the team. Allen hasn’t stopped playing softball ever since that day.

What’s your favorite thing about softball? Honestly, I like how competitive softball is. The places it’s taken me. I’ve met some lifelong friends along the way. It’s brought me closer to amazing people and amazing athletes. It’s brought me so many opportunities and it’s so crazy to me.

What’s it like playing for Team Mizuno? It’s AWESOME! We really are an awesome team. We are all very different people but we all come together and we mesh really well. Coach Jason is an awesome coach. He really is. He helps us out. We do team bonding when we go to different tournaments. He always takes us to do fun things.

What’s your favorite memory from this summer? My team tying for 9th this year at PGF Nationals in California. That was a really awesome accomplishment for us. I’m just proud of us and how far we went. We lost our third bracket game and we played four games in one day and we won all four.

Where are you in the recruiting process? I’ve taken three unofficial visits. I went down to OU. I loved Oklahoma. Patty Gasso is an awesome coach. One of the things she said that stood out to me was, “When you leave our school, we not only want you to be a better player, we want you to be a better woman.” I thought that was really cool.

I’ve also been to Oregon. The facilities are awesome. I really liked Coach Jimmy, he gave me some awesome pointers when I went down there for camp.

I’ve also been to the University of Washington. Washington is absolutely gorgeous. I really love their staff. I love Coach Tarr. She makes you feel so much at home especially for me being so far from home.

What’s something few people know about you? I cannot stand disorder. I cannot stand a messy room. I cannot stand an unmade bed.

What’s your favorite motto/mantra? Play like you’re in first. Train like you’re in second.

What’s one thing besides your phone, you can live without? Music. My alarm clock is Beyoncé. I wake up to Beyoncé. I turn on my Spotify channel. I listen to music at school. I listen to music to pump me up for games.

What was the last song you listened to? Send my love by Adele

Do you have any softball superstitions? I’ve been catching the same pitcher, Grace Green for all my life. We have discovered that it’s bad luck to touch the chalk before a game. Don’t step on the chalk line.

nullWhat’s the best advice you’ve ever been given? Don’t ever let someone tell you that you can’t because you’re a girl. Being a girl is not a bad thing at all. You can be a strong girl. You can be an athletic girl. You can be an independent girl.

If you could have any superpower, what would it be? Definitely mind reading.

Do you have a nickname? Mace

If you could have dinner with anyone dead or alive, who would it be? Bianka Bell

If you could describe yourself in one word on the field and off the field, what would it be? On the field: Competitive. Off the field: Charismatic

If you could add any talent what would it be?
Gymnastics
