After First Blemish On Oklahoma Softball Record, OU Pounces On Fullerton

For the first time since 2021, Oklahoma Softball was not the No. 1 team in the country in the most recent college softball rankings.

On Friday's first game of the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic, the Sooners took out any frustration on Cal State Fullerton.

The Sooners led 5-0 after two innings and then Rylie Boone hit a two-run home run to future push the Sooners' lead.

Oklahoma, the back-to-back defending national champions who went 59-3 in 2022, lost to Big 12 rival Baylor 4-3 on Feb. 19. The Sooners' first game since that loss was against Fullerton, which had already scored another major upset this season when they beat No. 22 Oregon 5-0 in the first game of the day.

Oklahoma went on to win its Mary Nutter opener 8-0 in five innings and faces Texas A&M at 6 p.m. Friday.

OU Softball Blasts Texas A&M At Mary Nutter Classic

Oklahoma played a total of 10 innings of softball on Friday.

Shortly after beating Fullerton, the Sooners scored four runs in the first inning against Texas A&M and Jocelyn Erickson hit a 3-run home run to make it 7-0 later in the game. Oklahoma won 8-0 in five innings.

Who Is Mary Nutter?

Mary Nutter was an All-American softball player and a pioneer in the sport.

She was a coach at Pittsburgh State and was inducted into the NAIA Hall of Fame in 1988 and the National Fast Pitch Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 1997.

Nutter died in 2012.
