When the college baseball season begins on Feb. 16 across the country, there will be scores of new faces making their college baseball debuts.

The best freshman in the country, according to Perfect Game’s final player rankings list, is Cameron Johnson, a lefty pitcher who will start his college career with LSU. Johnson might have been taken higher in the 2023 draft than his 20th round selection by the Cardinals but he was a strong LSU commitment.

He ranked as the No. 11 overall prospect in his high school class and the No. 3 player from the state of Florida.

Like every recruiting class, many of the 2023 high school top players signed with MLB teams and skipped college altogether, but even some of the best players chose to head to college.

The best freshman class in America will be at the College Baseball Showdown in week 2 as Arkansas heads to Globe Life Field. The No. 2 team in some polls is led by star pitcher Hagen Smith, but also includes lefty pitcher Hunter Dietz and righty Gabe Gaeckle.

Texas A&M, which is at the College Baseball Showdown in the third weekend, has the No. 4 recruiting class.

Here are the 25 best freshmen in the country according to Perfect Game.
