Recruiting Question of the Week (6/7)
Recruiting Question of the Week (6/7)

Each week we take a question from a softball player, parent or coach and pass on to our long-time contributor, Cathi Aradi, one of the most knowledgeable people in softball when it comes to the recruiting process.
If you’d like to ask Cathi a question, e-mail us at brentt.eads@flosports.tv and we’ll pass it along.
Today, we learn about talking to coaches at a camp if you’re not yet in high school…

Recruiting Question: When attending invitational camps–and being that I am not yet a 9th grader–can I talk to coaches? – Mariah Rodriguez, USA Victory 14U
Cathi’s Answer: Yes, you may talk to coaches, however, my best advice is to wait to see if they want to talk to you.

When coaches are evaluating prospects–whether at a camp or a tournament–they often prefer to be left alone to observe, take notes, etc.
If you know you’re going to be attending a particular camp, you can always email or send a postcard to coaches who will be scouting there letting them know who you are and what position you play.
Then after the camp has concluded, you can follow up with a phone call or email to see if a coach has any input for you.
As a 14U player, your goal should be to have fun, continue to develop your skills and begin to get on coaches’ radar so they can follow your development!
