The Illinois Chill Gold team exploded for 26 runs in their three games in pool play to win Pool F. The offensive dominance was spread evenly across the three games, as the Chill scored nine against the the Bartlett Silver Hawks, nine against the St. Louis Esprit, and eight against the Midwest Speed.

Chill head coach Jerry Quinn attributed his team’s success to its balanced offense.

“Our slappers did a good job setting up our RBI hitters in the middle of the lineup. We have a great complimentary offense with speed and table setters at the top and the middle can get runs in. Our number three and number four hitters, Kayla Konworth (2016, Wisconsin) and Alex Martens (2016, Kentucky), really did a great job driving in runs today.”

The Chill start their bracket play off against the 0-3 Bulls Sox Academy at 9:00 AM.

While the Chill impressed offensively, the Beverly Bandits Premier JT dominated with pitching. The team’s two aces, 2016 Hot 100 No. 2 player Miranda Elish (2016, Oregon) and 2017 Hot 100 No. 1 player Alexis Holloway (2017, Notre Dame) pitched all three games and gave up only one run between the two of them to propel their team to the top of Pool E.

“They’re from Bill’s (Bill Conry) staff last year and they’re just phenomenal pitchers,” explained head coach Jen Tyrrell. “They have different styles and pitch their own games. Alexis’ change-up is her bread and butter while Miranda is more of a power pitcher, but they both have great command of the zone and don’t walk people.”

Aside from outstanding pitching, Coach Tyrrell complimented how her defense played today.

“Our defense did really well. With Alexis and Miranda pitching they didn’t have much to do, but when the other teams put the ball in play, our defense played well.”

The Bandits will take on the 0-3 Cheetahs in their first game of bracket play at 9:00 AM.

The New Lenox Lightening held off a late-game rally from a tough Michigan Finesse team to win their last game of the day and remain undefeated for the day. Earlier in the tournament, the Lightening tied three-three against the Iowa Premier team and beat the Cheetahs in its second game.

As the No. 1 seed in Pool H, the Lightening will square off against Wasco Diamonds ML in the first game of bracket play tomorrow at 10:45 AM.

The battle for the top seed in Pool G saw the Indiana Magic coming out on top. With an uneven number of teams, the Magic actually draw a bye in their first round of bracket play even though they are the only No. 1 seed coming out of pool play with a loss.
