The 2024 Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic is one of the premier softball tournaments of the season and only the NCAA Softball Tournament may feature more ranked teams or nearly ranked teams. 

In the Mary Nutter field are 11 teams that were either ranked or received votes in this week’s rankings. That includes No.1 Oklahoma Softball, the three-time defending NCAA champion that is riding a historic winning stream of 62 games.

Oklahoma plays one ranked team at Mary Nutter, No. 25 Mississippi State. The Sooners will also be tested by San Diego State, which was on the cusp of being ranked after receiving nine votes in the latest coaches poll. 

No. 5 Tennessee is the second highest ranked team, followed by fellow SEC East rival Missouri at No. 11.

Who Is Mary Nutter?

Mary Nutter was an All-American softball player and a pioneer in the sport. 

She was a coach at Pittsburgh State and was inducted into the NAIA Hall of Fame in 1988 and the National Fast Pitch Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 1997.

Nutter died in 2012.
