The No. 14 Washington softball team saw Duke take the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning in its season-opening game at the Mark Campbell Invitational, but that lead didn’t last long. 

With the first at-bat of the top of the sixth inning, Kinsey Fiedler tied the game with the first home run of the season for the Huskies. 

Playing in a tight contest against the No. 16 Blue Devils, the Huskies took the lead late on Thursday in Irvine, Calif.

2023 Pac-12 Softball Preview: Contenders From Top-To-Bottom

After Baylee Klinger walked, which prompted a pitching change, Washington took the lead 3-2 in the inning following a wild pitch. The Huskies added to the lead after an RBI double by SilentRain Espinoza to make it 4-2 entering the bottom of the sixth inning. 

The Huskies went on to win 4-3.

The sophomore Fiedler, batting lead off in Game No.1 of the 2023 season was a member of the Pac-12 All-Freshmen Team in 2022.
